Judicial Separation

Judicial separation terminates the obligation of a husband and wife to live together but does not end the marriage.  The use of judicial separation is declining and it is mostly useful where parties object to divorce on religious or other grounds.  There is an equivalent for civil partnership which is known as ‘separation’.
